a wedding quilt

inspired by the anglo-american tradition of wedding quilts, i recently made a small quilt that i can finally share here on the blog, now that the two recipients are married and i can no longer spoil any surprises.
i like the idea of incorporating good wishes for the future, time and love, memories, experience and the work of my hands into a quilt and then using the quilt to give all these good thoughts to loved ones for their wedding.
so i designed this little quilt. while rummaging around in the factory outlet of a weaving mill in vorarlberg, i found heading fabric for tea towels, which could be considered left-overs, but way too beautiful to no be made into something nice; single-coloured, still without a pattern, fabric that is intended for the household, made to be used, robust, durable, simple in a way, but made of good, high-quality materials (linen and cotton); fabric that becomes softer with use, meant for the kitchen, something utalitarian, but with a few details that make it special (including the black warp thread). i knew immediately that this fabric would be the quilt top.
i also really wanted to incorporate the colour yellow. i don't know where that came from, but when i think of the two people the quilt is for, yellow just keeps popping up. there was exactly one piece of heading fabric in a lovely mustard yellow at the factory sale; perfection!
the back of the quilt is a water green linen from the czech republic. again, a lot of good craftsmanship, fabric that is made to a high standard and yet doesn't show off, with a carefully made tumble finish that makes the fabric very soft and gentle to the touch.
an this is the quilt ...
